The Waterfront Hilton

Ruta and Sean’s wedding ceremony took place at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Newport Beach with the cocktail hour and reception close by at The Waterfront Hilton, in Huntington Beach. Their color scheme was dominated by white, interspersed with touches of brown and red.

ruta-juostasThe bride is Lithuanian and it was very important for her to incorporate family cultural traditions throughout the course of the reception. As the bridal party and newlyweds entered the reception area, they were greeted by close friends holding an archway of Lithuanian woven sashes (the same sashes which are also used on their traditional dancing costumes). First the bridal party walked under the sashes, followed by the bride and groom. The wedding couple were then met by their parents holding a plate with a slice of bread (symbolizing work), a pinch of salt (symbolizing tears) and a glass of wine (symbolizing joy) ; the three elements of life. The newlyweds broke off a piece of bread, dipped it in the salt, took a bite and then followed it with a sip of wine. This ceremony symbolized the sharing of the sweet and sorrowful times of life together.

The second dance was Rezginele, signifying hope for a bright and happy future, whereby the newlywed’s hands were bound with sashes, symbolizing their togetherness.

Following the cultural events, Ruta and Sean’s guests danced the night away with music from the Blue’s Racket (The Dancing with the Stars Band). The evening concluded with a traditional wedding cake and a Lithuanian Wedding Cake, Raguolis.
